David Winning

David Winning's latest series of landscape paintings celebrate the open landscapes of Northern England, with their harsh moorlands and vast skies.
Sometimes working from direct observations but also from recollections, he takes familiar topographical elements and abstracts compositions from them. He paints in a direct and expressive style, combining media and technique to produce a multi-layered surface of vivid colour and animated marks.
David studied at Bolton College of Art and then at the University of South Wales, Cardiff, where he specialised in drawing and painting. He has exhibited widely and his work appears in private collections across North West England and beyond.
Paintings in the present collection are executed mainly in acrylic paint and enamels on board or canvas. They range from 28 cm square to 80 cm square, and all are framed.
