John Wesdorp
Dutch abstract painter, John Wesdorp, has returned to the art world after a 35 year absence.
Born in Holland in 1949, Wesdorp attended art classes in Rotterdam in the late 60s. He became a pupil of Gerard van Elk and Lambert Vogel and went on to have a short but successful career as an abstract expressionist painter. His early work followed Joseph Beuys and was heavily inspired by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock.
Despite his initial success in the art world, in 1973 Wesdorp decided to pursue an alternative career. He became a successful entrepreneur in the fields of IT, Telecommunications and Internet business, and even parlayed a fascination with the human mind into an alternate career as a qualified hypnotherapist. Having built several successful companies, John still felt a void in his life -- the business world had not dulled his passion for abstract painting and sculpture, as well as his strong creative drive. In 2006, he decided to return to his old love of abstract expressionism, and again stepped up to the canvas.
He now lives in Cheshire, England and is re-launching his artistic career under the tutelage of Annamarie Quinn. He has created a small but mature body of work that is redolent of all the varied experiences of his life and career to date - cultural diversity, travel, knowledge of the unconscious mind and a uniquely humanistic and liberal outlook on life. This new collection of recent work shows that his early talent is unmistakably still present, but has grown in stature and matured with his rich life experience and learned insights into the human psyche. He is currently planning a series of sculptures in metals to compliment his main body of works in acrylics on canvas. Wesdorp's work is becoming highly collectable and will make a sound investment as he continues to make his mark in the world of abstract expressionism.
