Tim Rushton

Born in 1951, from an early age Tim Rushton was fascinated by the landscape of his childhood in North Manchester and Oldham, with its shattered mixture of industry and shrinking countryside. Farms and cultivated valleys juxaposed with railway lines, cotton mills and old canals produced a strong visual vocabulary which he incorporated into drawings and paintings as he grew up.

Four years at art school in the 1970s, in Manchester and Portsmouth, helped him to develop an abstract language which continues to evolve. Mountain landscapes, organic forms, typography and design, both architectural and mechanical have all fused with his early inspirations. He works in a range of media including pastel and wax crayon drawing, tempera painting and screen print.
