Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, but at the age of five moved to Devon where she spent most of her childhood. In 1974 she gained a Diploma in Graphic Design from Berkshire College of Art, and in 1975 moved to Manchester where she worked as a medical artist, illustrator and graphic designer. Returning to education in 1999, she graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting).

Wild and remote, the landscape of the moors and coasts of Britain are the source for recent work, the remains of Neolithic and Bronze Age inhabitancy can be seen at these sites, locations of religious importance and sacred mythologies. Taylor's paintings begin at these sites, taking inspiration from observing these early architectural environments, seeing a link of evolution that connects modern society with our ancestors.

Between abstraction and figurative inspiration and working mainly with oil on canvas, Ann creates a bridge between reality and imagination and offers her own response to these early societies who left the evidence of their lives and beliefs in the enduring stone circles, avenues and monuments that are scattered throughout the British Isles.

Now living and working in Sale, Greater Manchester, Taylor has exhibited in the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts Annual Exhibition and for several years in Stockport Museum and Art Gallery's Annual Open. In addition, a collection of her paintings have been exhibited with the charity LIME who place artworks in hospitals as both a form of therapy and for their aesthetic value. Her work has been sold through private commissions in addition to galleries. Her paintings are held in private collections around the North West.
