Susie Sutton Lloyd

Susie Sutton Lloyd spent most of her childhood in Stockport and for as long as she can remember always experienced a genuine inner passion for art. At the age of thirteen her first recognised piece of work was to produce all of the illustrations for a small book, especially formulated for children in care, called the Who Cares Guide.

She studied at Stockport College of Technology, gaining a B-Tech National Diploma in Graphic Art & Design with Distinction. Whilst working for Roydes Advertising Agency in Prestbury, she continued her education by attending Manchester University to study Art History. Part of her research period was spent in America, studying two very inspirational yet different artists, Norman Rockwell and Walt Disney. During this time she developed a desire to create cartoon characters and went on to produce Buddy and his world, known as Gum-Jarb-a-Ging-Oiks, with the Cartoon Academy.

Aged twenty-four, Susie Sutton-Lloyd departed from creating characters and commenced work at the Manchester University Archaeological Unit, illustrating the finds from recent digs. As a result, she travelled throughout England, as well as exploring the riches of Egypt - an influence which is evident in most of her abstract work today. At the age of thirty she went on to study the art of illustrating children's books and on completion created Charlie Gum Shoes, Slog Ball, Ugoowah and Catacia. At the same time she started writing her own biography titled Children Never Forget, a project which took two years to complete.

Sutton Lloyd's determination and genuine dedication towards the mysterious world of art has drawn her to her most recent challenge. Now a full time artist, she creates delightful, colourful, non-dating images, with a strong design element. They invite the viewer to decide for themselves what they truly mean. Sutton Lloyd has works held in private and corporate collections in this country and overseas. Clients include Storm Television, Egmont World, Purple Frog Media, Arighi Bianchi and Ghana Air.
