Gary Strickland
'Are you not accountable to the Life of your Tribe'

Raven

Gary Strickland started painting when he was given a box of paints as a Christmas present in 1973. Now his flat in Walkden, just north of Manchester, is full of paintings, even though, ever self critical, he destroyed his early work in 1983. His compelling work combines the natural with the surreal. "The live elements, such as birds, work as a counterbalance to the perceived stillness of landscape."
