Stephen Lord was born in 1948 in Rossendale, an area associated with plunging water and rugged landscapes. Lord's landscapes reveal a passionate, energetic appraoch, portraying the Elements in their extremes. He says that his main objectives in working on a painting are to bring feeling and colour to the piece so that it seems to come alive.

He has exhibited in the UK and overseas, particularly in Portugal where he worked as a professinal watercolourist in the last 1990s.
