Richard Smith

Richard Smith, now in his mid thirties, has been a professinal artist for the past six years, since he decided to pursue his passion for painting full time. Self taught, until recently he has chosen to paint representational marine and seascapes such as the two above, taken from life at sites around the UK. These atmospheric pictures in oil and watercolour found a ready market. Recently he has opted to use only acrylic paint which he now regards as the 'perfect' medium for his new collection of ten Egyptian-based paintings influenced by the bright, dream-like colours of Salvador Dali, combined with the strong, flowing, organic forms characteristic of French Art Nouveau. As shown above, some images depict a creature, half-human, half-animal wearing Egyptian head dress, and all have a mystic quality.
