Penny Maddalena Isaia

For Penny Maddalena Isaia, art is an expression of physical beauty and romantic sentiment largely attached to Italy, with a blend of themes and interests enwined. Childhood memories and stimuli from Italy that are etched in her mind ingrain her work with a romantic longing to relive the joy and innocence of her early years there.Classical and Baroque architecture and sculpture are a constant source of inspiration; as well as Mattisse's bright and vibrant use of colour and pattern. Yet the fundamental thing pervading her work is her Christian faith. She hopes her work gives pleasure to those who see it, but there is a deeper meaning to it as well.
The size of canvas and expanse of subjects enforce a fresco look. She aspires for her paintings to be visually magnetic and pleasing, seeking to evoke and stir deep interest, to uplift and release the soul and spirit. Generous and fluid brush marks add a moving 'living' quality to her big works, emphasing the flare and passion for life.
Born in December 1975, of British/Italian decent, Penny achieved her BA Combined Hons. Arts, Italian and Fine Arts, at the University of Wales, in Aberystwyth, before studying painting restoration as an apprentice to Dr Raffaela Rimaboschi, in Florence, Italy, in 1997/8.Penny has won the prestigeous Louise De Burgh Prize and was commissioned to design and make a Textile Artwork, in 1993.
