Peter Oakley

Considering the Past

Baggage

Peter Oakley trained in design and graphics, and has had a career as art teacher in Leicester, Ormskirk and Southport.  He has worked in theatre design on sets, costume and theatrical effects.  "I was constantly engaged in creating illusion through the use of light and shadow, and this experience began to change my other work, which in turn became more brightly lit and dramatic."

Peter is a painter/ printmaker who has been exhibiting in the UK and abroad for 50 years. A member of Cheshire Artists Network, he is a past President of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and has been chair of Warrington Visual Artists Forum since 1999. The stimulus for much of his present work derives from artefacts in museums, on archaeological sites or from collections of personal memorabilia.
