Mel Brown
Cheshire-based artist, Mel Brown, draws her inspiration from nature, the sky and sea, with their ever changing and captivating colour and light. Yet she paints from her memories, her imagination and her emotions, as evoked by nature, rather than by nature itself. Recently she has been inspired by natural stone and rock formations. The result is a move away from the tranquil moods and the trademark white horizontal stripe expressed in her last collection. Now stands a visually stunning, exciting body of work comprised of some highly textural pieces with a 3-D element. These paintings are both atmospheric and ethereal.
Mel says her paintings, executed in oils and acrylics, on large canvas are: "Peaceful, yet bold .. a chance to see the world through my eyes." In doing this we are invited to experience the colour-blindness of Brown, which lends a dynamic interest to her colour palette, which is restricted, in each series, to a narrow range of two or three colours and variations within shades, such as subtle greys, creams and black or dynamic florescent pinks and purples! The minimalist and compelling style of Brown has caught the attention of a discerning public.
