Joyce Burgess

In Joyce Burgess's paintings cool colours dominate, stretching across the painting like clouds skudding across the sky or the surf rolling into the shore. She applies layers of paint, washed on and washed off, covering, lifted, manoeuvred, mixed, splattered and persuaded one way or another to produce surface patterns or texture. Joyce does not try to express any particular emotion or passion when she paints; rather she is content to explore the physical process and to be absorbed in this exploration.
She has had designs for greetings cards printed by Medici Greetings Cards of London, in addition to designing the Rossendale Mayoral Christmas card for 1998. She has exhibited regularly around the North West since her first show in 1995, including in Hebden Bridge, Littleborough, Waterfoot, Manchester, Hull, Barnsley and Rossendale.
