Jayne Jones

Jayne Jones completed a degree in Visual Studies at Hull School of Art in 1993 and returned there for an M.A. in Art, Design and Critical Theory.  She began to experiment with paint surfaces during this course and discovered for herself the interesting properties of the industrial paint Hammerite.  This immiscible metallic paint, which dries to the apearance of beaten metal, is now her main medium.  With it she develops sensuous colours and textures, achieving this technically by pouring the unstirred thick paint over the canvas and tipping it until it spreads.  The process is thus largely unpredicatable, but this is part of its intrigue and aesthetic pleasure.

Jayne lives in Hull and has a studio with the Kingston Art Group. She has exhibited in Hull, Halifax, Beverley and Rotherham. She last exhibited at the Blyth Gallery in 2001.
