Jan Cartain

Jan Cartain was born in Coventry and trained at Huddersfield Polytechnic (1967-1970) and Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University 1982-1984). During this time, and until her early retirement from teaching in 2000, she taught art and design in schools in Bradford and later in Salford. Since retirement she has developed a mixture of contemporary and traditional work.  She enjoys working in a a wide variety of materials.  Landscape and figurative studies, which she records initially in water colour and pastel on the spot, form an essential part of her output.

She has exhibited at the Laing Art Competition in Salford, in Stockport and Althrincham.
