Sculptures

The Family (Stone)

Coiled Form (Zebra marble)

Standing Form (Ancaster stone) & Togetherness (Bronze resin)

In his sculptures Colin Jacobs explores the relationship between mankind and the natural world. He seeks to understand and symbolise the life journeys that we take, whether from youth to age, from innocence to worldly wise, from solitude to attactment.

The activity of carving stone gives him particular pleasure on account of its weight and great age consider for instance a block of limestone formed from tiny sea creatures over millions of years. He sees his task in carving being to "open the skin" of the stone and explore its inner nature. While this involves the physical act of chipping at the stone, the sculptor must transcend the limitations of the tools to create fresh insight. Each piece of sculpture is unique and shifts from realism to abstraction, under the inspiration of nature.
