Gregory Fuller and Colleagues
The New Manchester Art Group

Gregory Fuller trained as a lithographic printer and graduated from Wirral Metropolitan College in 1999 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. He is a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and other regional art societies. He has undertaken a range of commissions including pieces for Littlewoods Head Office in Liverpool. Corporate clients include United Utilities and the Co-operative Bank. He has exhibited his drawings, paintings and other works in Warrington, Ashton, St. Ives, St. Helens, Runcorn and Hebden Bridge. sGreg's work stems from a study of landscape and the environment more generally. Much of his inspiration has come from the Mersey Valley.
Peter Oakley has been a widely exhibited painter and print maker for 50 years. His colourful and poetic images on canvas and paper refer to familiar yet unidentifiable objects, which range from domestic possessions to public collections in museums and archeological sites. He was President of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts from 1993 to 1997.
John Walsh, born in Widnes in 1937, is a painter whose subject matter,be it landscape, buildings or people, is predominantly determined by colour. His work records what he sees and his perspective shows his earlier training in building and architecture. His paintings are refreshingly simple.
David Stanley's works are, first and foremost, painntings rather than pictures. As pigment on a surface they are objects existing in their own right. In making abstract paintings he feels empowered to make many different references on the same surface at the same time. This brings together ideas generated from past knowledge, remembered moments and the current evidence of his eyes.
Shelia Dewsbury is an oil painter whose work explores the effects of light and atmosphere on the landscape and on the human figure. The Pennine area in which she lives and the more remote places in Wales and Ireland provide her artistic references. She is Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
John McCombs is an oil painter whose subject matter is essentrially the Pennine landscape centred on the village of Delph. His technique is that of using incisive, vigorous brushlines, drawing over flatly applied areas of colour. It is an investigative technique where close study of the subject and personal expression become integral.
Barbara Sykes' work in painting the human figure is a meditation on the human condition, from birth to death. Her technique involves pouring paint and staining the paper such that the paint is allowed to flow as if organically, suggesting to her the visceral quality of the human body.
