Shiela Dewsbury

Shiela Dewsbury is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a council member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, and one of the seven original members of the New Manchester Group. She is based in Saddleworth.
Her paintings explore the underlying structure of the subject and how the play of light exposes form. This theme is developed in landscape and city-scape, and also in her figure paintings which reflect the interplay between people or, conversely, the isolation of a single figure.
She has exhibited in London at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Quaker Gallery, and the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith. In and around Manchester she has had solo exhibitions at the Portico Gallery, UMIST, the Coliseum Theatre Oldham and the Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery. In mixed exhibitions she has exhibited at the Edinburgh Festive Fringe, the Royal Cambrian Academy in north Wales, the Grundy Gallery in Blackpool and several galleries in Manchester.
